According to a recent article/blog from Health Magazine bad news can cause us to eat more than we normally would. I can understand how feelings of depression would cause changes in eating habits, but I guess I never thought that the root of those feelings would stem from news reporting. There are some times when it literally feels like the news is all about the bad economy, natural disasters, crime sprees, etc. and there isn’t one hint of positive reporting. It would be interesting to monitor our own emotions and the desire to eat while watching the news. Who knows, maybe that is where those extra calories are coming from.
Do you notice a change in your eating habits when you watch bad news stories or even dramatic television shows?

Interesting article. I am aware that many people eat when depressed, and I am also aware that bad news can cause many to become depressed, but I never crossed the two where bad news can affect people’s eating habits. Having studied Psychology, I shouldn’t be surprised. I do not think news affects my eating habits personally, as I am health-conscious, but I will probably watch others now and see what happens!
